Descrizione dell'attività di ricerca

We aim to describe the prevalence of individuals with dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease or mild cognitive impairment) in the Campania Region of Italy (from 2015 to 2020) and evaluate the rate of progression of these conditions. We will also evaluate healthcare needs of this population with specific regard to required procedures for pathology-based diagnosis which could mean in the short-term access to pathology-specific treatments. To achieve these aims we will include the following Campania Region healthcare datasets: hospital discharge records dataset (including primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures); outpatients database (with outpatient procedures and consultations, along with exemption codes); and regional prescription database (with AD-specific prescriptions). In addition, we will perform full characterization of this population thanks to linkage between big data in healthcare in the Campania Region and clinical dataset at “Federico II” University of Naples, which encompasses demographics, educational status, cognitive performance and pathology characterization, as available.

Stato dell'attività

Start up (we already applied similar methods to a much more definite disease i.e. Multiple Sclerosis and, thus, the present project reads as a long-range extension of already successfully applied methods).
